Tango
Tango is a real phenomenon that drew the attention of great masses for a long time, it is an emotion, a story of existence. It has expanded its impact far beyond music, and become the manner of expression of socio-cultural life of a nation. There is almost no art and artist that took no direct or indirect step into the tango event: poets, musicians, authors, journalists, painters and sculptors, and even politicians. Tango is a social being. Thinking of tango merely as a dance music is to restrict it to a shallow concept. Tango is a multiple strategy; music, dance, lyric, show, philosophy… In Buenos Aires, tango, a performance of artists lasting for more than a century - approximately eight generations – keptits entire character and originality that was formed at the courtyards of well-known houses, at bawdy houses and slums. As a vivid and lasting art, it is like a ritual of Buenos Aires with more than 30 thousand performances staged, and rendition on more than 50 thousand records and tapes. Tango was introduced to Turkey after proclamation of the Republic along with great changes toward the west, in a few examples played by foreign musicians at balls in Istanbul and Ankara. The tango of Necip Celal was to be recorded in 1928 in Ms. Seyyan's voice, to be followed by the first tango of Fehmi Ege and others.
Tango relates to an androcratic subculture to which women have participated. It has been ready-to-fight for a long time…
Tango has none of the superior elements inherent in other dances; it is not about a man and a woman.. Tango is about gender equality; this is not a surprise, but it is something already known. There is no turning on, there is nothing unexpected in that contact. It is an agreed contact, an agreement in advance, a tango contract. Tango history is the story of encounters of those who should have never met or those who met but never came across eternally…
This is the story of tango.. This is my story.. I opened my arms, even though I avoided, even if I ran away from a conflict, I did it merely to plunge into another fearlessly. I met people whom I should have never met, thanks to tango. My interest in tango emerged from blue ruin, pain, anger and my hunger to understand my role as a woman in this universe.. and most important of all; I know and knew at all times that HE WHO FIGHTS SHALL SURVIVE.
And know we have a group of approximately 700 people in Istanbul, dedicating a few days of a week actively to tangoing as well as distinguished tango trainers, and thanks to the dance nights arranged every night, an alternative program at all times. I HAVE time in which I need no talk to anybody dedicated to myself when I meditate by dancing, a MOVE that I do for myself. There is nothing more precious, more magic than being able to do something for herself, only for herself. And the strongest expression of that is TANGO.
